About AFMA

The Animal Feed Manufacturers Association (AFMA) is the voice of South Africa’s formal animal feed industry. We champion a responsible, innovative, and sustainable sector that underpins the entire food value chain.

AFMA’s core mandate is to promote the growth, development, and long-term sustainability of the feed industry, while ensuring that the sector operates responsibly and transparently within the greater food value chain. By fostering high standards, innovation, and responsible practices, AFMA contributes to securing safe, nutritious, and reliable feed—an essential foundation for food production and consumer confidence.

To achieve these objectives, AFMA actively creates an enabling environment for its members through meaningful engagement and collaboration with a wide network of stakeholders. These include government and regulatory authorities, parastatals, industry forums, commodity and trade associations, as well as partners across the grain and livestock value chains. Both locally and internationally, AFMA positions itself as a trusted voice and a catalyst for progress in the feed and food industries.

Our History

Since 1945, AFMA has been standing its ground in the local and international arena to fulfil its vision of taking the lead as the dynamic animal feed thought leader influencing food security through partnerships with all stakeholders in various value chains, unlocking sustainable growth for all.

Vision & Mission

Our focus has always centred around one core purpose: ensuring “Safe Feed for Safe Food.” This was formalised in 2006 when AFMA trademarked the slogan, affirming its commitment to safety, quality, and integrity.

AFMA Structures

AFMA’s internal committees are the engine rooms of our industry – bringing together experts who lead progress across critical focus areas. Being part of a committee means more than staying informed.
