Liesl Breytenbach was appointed Executive Director of AFMA on 1 August 2023, bringing nearly two decades of industry experience to the role. She holds an M.Sc. in Agriculture (Monogastric Nutrition) from Stellenbosch University and began her career as a formulator at Meadow Feeds in 2004. Her career path includes roles in operational nutrition and technical advisory services at Afgri Animal Feeds, followed by a long-standing tenure at AFMA. With a strong foundation in feed legislation, nutrition, and regulatory management, Liesl is passionate about enabling growth through collaboration and driving AFMA’s vision as a thought leader in animal feed.

Operations Manager
Petru Fourie was raised in Kimberley and holds a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of the Free State. She spent several years working at a commodity organisation, gaining extensive experience at producer level, in stakeholder engagement, and in research coordination. She currently serves as Operations Manager at AFMA, where she continues to broaden her expertise across the agricultural value chain. Petru is particularly passionate about fostering collaboration through strategic partnerships and creating meaningful capacity-building opportunities, especially for student involvement in the industry.

Accountant
Mandy Jansen van Vuuren, raised in Centurion, has dedicated her entire career to financial administration. Since joining AFMA as an accountant in 2006, she has remained a steadfast asset to the organization, utilizing her financial expertise to support the industry. Currently, she continues to excel in her role as Accountant, embodying her personal motto: “Commitment and consistency — the foundations of lasting impact.”

Membership Liaison Officer
Wimpie Groenewald is a seasoned professional in the farm feed sector, with a background in public administration. Raised in Pretoria, she earned an Honour’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Pretoria. She began her career at the Registrar’s Office under Act 36 of 1947, where she gained extensive expertise in regulatory compliance. Currently, as Membership Liaison Officer at AFMA, she promotes industry excellence through the AFMA Code of Conduct and advocates for growth through targeted training initiatives.

Trade Advisor
Lucius Phaleng was born in Moletjie Ga-Hlahla, a village in Limpopo Province, and was raised by his late grandparents, Joel and Mmatlou Boshomane. He has over eight years of professional experience within the agricultural sector. His career began at the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC), where he collaborated closely with farmers, government officials, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for enhancing agricultural exports. Lucius is currently a Trade Advisor at AFMA, where he is responsible for managing trade portfolios and overseeing trade-related matters that may influence the procurement and supply of feed ingredients and raw materials for the feed manufacturing industry.

Bonita Cilliers holds a Master’s degree in Animal Science and brings over ten years of specialised experience in the animal feed industry, with a strong focus on feed safety, regulatory compliance, and quality management systems. Her career began in quality control and premix formulation, later expanding to export formulation and the implementation of ISO 22000-aligned feed safety systems. Her responsibilities also included overseeing product registrations in terms of Act 36 and ensuring facility compliance with both legal requirements and global corporate standards.
She currently serves as a Technical & Regulatory Advisor at AFMA, where she continues to live out her passion for the animal feed industry, leading key strategic portfolios in feed safety, regulatory affairs, and self-regulation – including AFMA’s flagship self-regulation tool, the Code of Conduct. Bonita is particularly passionate about smart, system-based tools that enhance efficiency, traceability, and operational excellence within the feed sector and day-to-day processes.
Beyond her professional role, Bonita leads a purpose-driven life grounded in animal welfare, personal discipline, and holistic balance. She shares her home with a variety of beloved animals – and her veterinarian husband – whom she is still in the process of convincing to expand their small menagerie. She values a well-rounded lifestyle supported by intentional routines and regular physical activity, guided by the belief that consistency is key to achieving sustainable success, both personally and professionally.

Marketing & Events Coordinator
Bee Oelofsen is an experienced marketing and events professional with more than 26 years in administration, stakeholder engagement, and communication. Known for her meticulous planning, strong relationships, and calm approach under pressure, she has built a reputation for delivering events that run smoothly and make a lasting impression.
In her role as AFMA’s Marketing and Events Coordinator, Bee oversees a wide range of industry gatherings, including symposiums, short courses, AGMs, golf days, award ceremonies, and gala dinners. She takes pride in creating opportunities for members to connect, share knowledge, and celebrate the agricultural sector, always aiming to combine professionalism with a creative touch.

Technical Intern
Cilé-Mari Schultz grew up in Pretoria and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Pretoria. Her studies sparked a strong interest in animal nutrition, feed formulation, and sustainable livestock production.
As an intern at AFMA, she is gaining hands-on experience in industry operations, training, and stakeholder engagement while contributing fresh ideas to projects. Cilé-Mari is passionate about strengthening links between academia and industry and creating opportunities for students in the feed sector.
